Instagram Loop Giveaway Instructions
Identify Your Partners
First, you need to identify a group of other Instagram accounts to work with. When looking for other accounts to partner with, you want to look for accounts with similar audience demographics. By creating a loop giveaway, you are basically driving your followers to each others accounts, so the accounts you work with need to be relevant and interesting to your current audience.
If you don’t pick the right partners to loop with, you (or they) may experience significant “follower drop off” after the contest is over. When winners have been announced, people may un-follow accounts they don’t feel are relevant to them.
My opinion is that loops should be limited to 10 or fewer accounts. I’ve seen them as large as 30… and that’s just crazy! You want your loop large enough to be fun, but you don’t want to make it too difficult for folks to complete the loop.
How It Works
Let’s say our loop has four accounts in it (see the infographic, below, for clarification):
- Account 1 directs people to go to Account 2 to follow
- Account 2 directs people to go to Account 3 to follow
- Account 3 directs people to go to Account 4 to follow
- Account 4 directs people to go to Account 1 to follow
So regardless of where someone starts, they get directed to the next account in the loop until they end up at the account they started with.
In a loop giveaway, the loop members can all go in together on a large prize, or each account can give away a smaller prize. There could be one grand prize winner, or each account could pick their own winner for the prize they are offering. The “right” prize could be the difference between whether you retain all of your new followers when the contest is over… or not.
Launching the Giveaway
Have one contest graphic that each account will post at the same time. Coordinate so that all of the accounts in the loop will post the image and instructions at the same time (don’t forget to account for time zone differences! One person should write the text for the giveaway post, and send it out to each member of the loop, so everyone is using the same rules. Having a consistent set of rules reduces (and hopefully eliminates) confusion!
